Technical Publication WriterLooking for a highly motivated individual to take on the role of a technical writer for military publications. The technical publication writer will be responsible for interfacing and collaborating with Defense engineering to ensure accurate and timely delivery of Military Standard (MIL-STD) manuals to the Defense customer. This candidate will also be responsible for the creation of MIL-STD and/or contractor format work instructions for field level retro fit activities.ResponsibilitiesConduct an analysis of designs and maintenance-related data necessary to author and coordinate illustrations and parts data for technical manuals, briefings, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment and systems.Study engineering sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samplesConsult with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather the necessary information to author/illustrate Operator Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and generate Repair Parts and Special Tool Lists (RPSTLs) for ground vehicles, systems, and equipmentResponsible for technical accuracy and conducting internal validationSupport logistics demonstrations and customer verification activitiesQualifications2+ years of experience writing MIL-STD technical manualsAbility to read and interpret technical drawings (models, blueprints, schematics, hydraulic, and pneumatic flows).Experience with Arbortext XML Editor and DOD IADS softwareProven mechanical or electrical aptitudePreferred to have experience writing powertrain and body/chassis DTC diagnosticsExperience writing for Diesel automotive and heavy-wheeled vehicles.Familiarity with logistics, systems, subsystems, and components associated with heavy and/or medium mobile system operation and maintenanceExperience writing to two-level DoD maintenance conceptExperience with XML taggingExperience authoring in XML using MIL-STD-2361 Document Type Definitions (DTDs), and with MIL-STD-40051-1B/C, MIL-STD-40051-2B/C, or MIL-STD-38784Proven results-oriented performance with excellent problem-solving abilities, decision-making, and organizational skills, as well as the capability to adapt to changeRequired Education, Experience, & SkillsHigh school diploma and 3+ years of relevant work experience, or BS/BA (technical writing, English, or related field) and 2 years of relevant work experienceStrong initiative and able to organize daily tasks with minimal supervisionFast learner with the ability to pick up new concepts and technology quicklyStrong communication skills (oral and written)Strong editing skills and the ability to provide editing rationale to customersComfortable working in teams and independentlyExperience creating training documentationAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
