Technical Services Manager – Protection & Automation

Houston, Texas

We are representing an established manufacturer of power-system protection, monitoring, and automation equipment seeking an experienced Technical Services Manager for its Houston operation

.This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who combines deep protective-relaying expertise with strong customer-facing and team-management skills. The manager will lead a technical-support group while working closely with customers, Sales, Application Engineering, Marketing, and Product Development

.Key Responsibilitie

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical-service engineers
  • Establish priorities and ensure customer issues are resolved accurately and promptly
  • Provide advanced technical guidance involving protective relays, fault-recording equipment, control systems, and power-system automation
  • Support product demonstrations, customer training, application reviews, and technical consultations
  • Assist customers with equipment configuration, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operation
  • Manage complex customer escalations while protecting long-term client relationships
  • Support Sales with technical proposals, presentations, application guidance, and competitive evaluations
  • Develop technical materials that help customers understand equipment capabilities and applications
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams on customer feedback, product improvements, and new solutions
  • Build strong relationships with utility, industrial, and engineering customers
  • Represent the organization at relevant power-industry conferences and technical meetings
  • Improve support processes, response times, documentation, and overall customer satisfaction

.Required Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineerin
  • Approximately 12 or more years of experience with modern protective relays, event or fault recording, and related power-system equipmen
  • Previous experience leading and developing technical professional
  • Strong understanding of power-system protection principles, practices, and philosophie
  • Experience applying protective relays within a utility, OEM, consulting, or engineering environmen
  • Knowledge of protection, control, integration, and automation system
  • Understanding of communication protocols and communication-system architectur
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and customer-management skill
  • Ability to conduct difficult technical or commercial conversations professionall
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as neede
  • Authorization to work permanently in the United States without sponsorshi

  • Short-circuit, load-flow, or transient-analysis studie
  • Relay settings, testing, commissioning, or troubleshootin
  • Digital fault recorders or power-system monitoring equipmen
  • Technical proposal development and pre-sales suppor
  • Utility or consulting-engineering experienc
  • Customer training and technical presentation
  • Collaboration with product-development and commercial team

The ideal candidate is a technically credible leader who can take ownership of a customer issue, organize the right resources, and guide it through resolution. This person should be equally comfortable discussing a protection application with an engineer, supporting a commercial presentation, coaching a team member, or handling a sensitive customer escalation
