Technical Services Manager for Access Control

The University of Maine seeks to hire a Technical Services Manager for Access Control. This full-time, salaried position oversees technical aspects of Access Control for Auxiliary Enterprises (notably residence halls) and other campus entities (notably research facilities). This requires a great deal of coordination with Residential Life, Facilities Management, IT, Campus Security and UMaine Police toward the collective goal of ensuring the safety and security of students and staff on campus.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

• Oversees the technical set-up, use, and maintenance of access security systems (S2Lenel, Transact/Illumia, Assa Abbloy) to manage access to an increasing number of buildings and interior spaces throughout campus, including residence halls, student rooms, and apartments; dining and retail operations; laboratories and research facilities.
• Coordinates with collaborating departments and off-campus vendors regarding access security, the campus video surveillance system, and other security-related projects.
• Evaluates, recommends, and implements new technologies and works with staff to maximize use of current technologies.
• Oversees the physical installation of electronic door locks for card/digital access. Performs online diagnostics, monitors functionality, and ensures installations, repairs, and replacements are coordinated with Facilities Management.
• Supervises support staff whose responsibilities include day-to-day maintenance of door access systems, video surveillance equipment, and other technical systems.
• Manages support for all hardware devices and peripherals related to MaineCard Services.
• Manages multi-channel video distribution, cable and streaming services.
• Manages inventory, maintenance, and security of departmental assets, such as vehicles, electronic equipment and tools, televisions and flat-screen devices, alarm systems, sound systems, and physical keys.
• Manages other systems such as security alarms and audio systems, coordinating with campus departments and/or vendors as appropriate.
• Stays current on industry trends and applicable technological advancements and pursues professional development opportunities.

Required:

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field and 2-3 years of applicable experience.
• Demonstrated experience in the electrical fields, including knowledge of instrumentation and control circuitry.
• Valid Maine driver’s license and be eligible to be authorized and approved as a university driver based on the Driver Administration Policy.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers and associated operating systems, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency in communication technologies, including coax, fiber, network and RF distribution.
• Basic understanding of network communication protocols.
• Experience coordinating people, projects, and tasks to successful outcomes.
• Strong ability to exercise independent judgment, to take initiative, and to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with all levels of the University community.
• Low Voltage Electrician’s license to be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

• Experience with access control and alarm systems.
• Knowledge of multi-channel video systems.
• Project Management Professional certification or equivalent.
