As a leader in quality assurance and quality control, this role oversees project setup, execution, and closeout to deliver top-quality results. The Technical Manager provides technical expertise to resolve complex design challenges, supports project management to keep work on schedule and within budget, and coaches team members to foster skill growth.
Working closely with Project Managers and Designers, the Technical Manager ensures high-quality deliverables and mentors staff across all McAdams offices.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide expertise to resolve complex design issues and maintain project quality, mentoring engineering and design staffConduct quality assurance checks on deliverables, ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirementsCollaborate with Project Managers to develop project plans, oversee drawing preparation, and manage staffing needs across all phasesCoordinate technical requirements with clients, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants throughout the project lifecycleLead and guide the design team, assigning work, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviewsMentor designers, CAD technicians, and engineers to foster professional growth and team cohesionServe as a key liaison between design staff, CAD technicians, and project managers, facilitating clear communicationAct as the main point of contact for technical matters with clients, coordinating adjustments as neededOversee the creation of civil engineering documents, including site, utility, stormwater, grading, and permitting plansEnsure designs meet company standards and align with best practices in civil engineeringLead technical training initiatives, sharing knowledge across teams and offices to enhance skills and standardize practicesAssist with project scope, budget, and schedule development, adjusting plans as project needs changeSupport project pursuits and manage single-service line projects as neededPerform other duties as assignedSkills + ExperienceFour-year bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field requiredEI required; PE requiredMinimum of 7+ years' experience in civil site design or related field requiredDemonstrated expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D is essentialStrong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to land development, zoning, stormwater management, and permitting processesExcellent communication, mentorship, and problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse teamsWork Environment + Physical DemandsThe characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.
