Technical Design Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Technical Design Manager supports and manages a group of technical designers of all levels as a leader and a strong collaborator for Cato, Cache, It’s Fashion, and Versona Buyers, Product Managers, Designers, and Vendors, by developing a product with an optimum fit, consistent sizing, and quality construction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages and coordinates the activities of an assigned team of Technical Designers in the development of products.
• Oversees work in process to meet development goals and deadlines.
• Collaborates on Corporate initiatives and identifies opportunities for streamlining, defining best practices, etc.
• Responsible for training across teams to develop skill sets.
• Assigned a single or multiple departments’ products and performs the duties and responsibilities of a Technical Designer.
• Functions as the point person in each team and partners with Merchandising, Sourcing, Design, and Quality Assurance.
• Reports to the Director of Technical Design.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Flex PLM systems.
• Conduct competitive analysis research.
• Work in tandem with Merchandising, Sourcing, and Quality Assurance Departments, offering expertise and assistance as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• Degree in Apparel Manufacturing/Technical Design/Pattern Making preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• 10+ years experience in Technical Design and 3+ years of team managing experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Significant technical design skills with multiple product categories
• Pattern-making/Grading/Measurement/Specifications skills
• Garment construction (Industrial) and sewing skills a plus
• Fit Analysis/Problem-solving skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Computer skills: Word, Excel, Adobe Illustrator a plus
