Job Summary:
Performs specimen collection and accession receiving to support medical laboratory testing. Focuses on venipuncture, finger sticks, and specimen processing to assist in diagnosis and treatment, with potential to perform additional technical and clerical tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Collect blood specimens via venipuncture and finger sticks.
- Verify specimen identification and sample suitability for testing.
- Process samples using aseptic techniques and prepare documentation for testing.
- Communicate with patients to obtain information and explain procedures.
- Collaborate with other departments and healthcare providers to ensure smooth workflow.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and assist in supply management.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent required; associate’s/technical degree preferred.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician CPT I or II, or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) license required in CA; preferred in OR and HI.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor.
- Experience with venipuncture, sample processing, and laboratory safety protocols preferred.
- Strong communication skills for patient interaction and team collaboration.
