Team Lead / Senior Substation & Transmission Engineer

HDR is looking for a motivated Team Lead/Senior Substation & Transmission Engineer to join our growing, nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop partnership with the PM; support project scope, schedule, and budget execution.
• Develop and implement project execution plan for technical aspects.
• Assign tasks and provide technical guidance to team members.
• Support scope, schedule, and budget including proposal development, work‑breakdown‑structure creation, risk assessment, change management, and schedule control.
• Hire, mentor, train, and supervise Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
• Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for all deliverables per HDR Quality Management Systems.
• Lead multiple projects concurrently across different locations.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to develop technical expertise and attend training and seminars.
• Assist with technical papers or presentations for industry conferences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Conceptual knowledge of substation and transmission physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components.
• Understanding of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and related standards.
• Experience working with diverse teams across regions and departments.
• Experience in industry‑standard design software.
• Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Substation and/or Transmission design experience with voltages of 115 kV and above.
• Previous consulting firm experience.
• Self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Some travel may be required.
• Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Glen Allen area.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (PE or P.Eng).
• Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit).
