Job Overview

Barnes‑Jewish Hospital is seeking a Team Lead Charge Nurse to provide clinical and operational leadership within the Emergency Department. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, this role coordinates unit activities during an assigned shift, supports frontline staff, and serves as a clinical resource to the nursing team. The Charge Nurse helps ensure the delivery of safe, high‑quality patient care while maintaining an efficient and collaborative work environment. Applicants are required to have at least 2 years of nursing experience.

Sign‑On Bonus : $15,000

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily Emergency Department operations on assigned shifts.
• Provide direct patient care as needed and support complex clinical decision‑making.
• Serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and coach to nursing and support staff.

Schedule

• Full‑Time
• Night Shift
• Three 12‑hour shifts per week

Detailed Responsibilities

• Facilitates identification and resolution of gaps in care from hospitalization, at discharge, and into the ambulatory care setting. Critically assess patient data to proactively mitigate impending changes in condition and establishes consults to interprofessional teams as appropriate.
• Leads the development and implementation of complex individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and the patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Actively utilizes and champions scientific inquiry for evidence‑based practices (e.g., participates in journal club, facilitates practice change, recommends new standards of care, conducts literature searches, and disseminates new knowledge).
• Analyzes gaps in practice standards and provides feedback to peers in collaboration with leadership to enhance safe patient care.
• Leads the evaluation of the patient and family experience and adjusts care provided to improve patient satisfaction and quality of care.
• Maintains a constant state of alertness and safety as required of a safety‑sensitive position.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate’s
• Experience: 2–5 years
• Supervisor Experience: None
• License/Certification: RN

Preferred Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• Experience: 5–10 years
