Pre-School Teacher's Aide

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Pre-School Teacher's Aide for our UPK Program. The Teacher's Aide will assist the teacher in providing support in the classroom and working within the UPK guidelines. The Teacher's Aide will be assisting the teacher and students in the day-to-day operation of the classroom and will participate and collaborate with colleagues to ensure a safe, positive atmosphere and ensure the well-being of children at all times.

As a Teacher's Aide, you will assist the teacher in providing support in the classroom including helping with classroom activities and routines that keep the day running smoothly. You will collaborate closely with colleagues to create a safe, positive, and engaging environment. You will help ensure the well-being, growth, and happiness of the children in your care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Following all Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Day Care regulations and policies.
  • Assisting the teacher in using the district adopted curriculum and materials.
  • Utilizing positive classroom management techniques to guide student's behavior in a structured, positive and nurturing manner.
  • Reviewing expectations and class rules daily.
  • Assisting in creating and using individual behavior management plans when necessary.
  • Helping in conducting assessments in accordance with school district guidelines as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and cheerful classroom environment, with appropriate and varied materials available to all students.
  • Serving as a role model to students.
  • Demonstrating and facilitating appropriate conflict resolution and modeling kindness and empathy toward others.
  • Assisting in displaying the daily schedule with times and identifying pictures. Reviewing the schedule with the children as you transition from activity to activity.
  • Maintaining flexibility as reassignment to other classrooms is needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 6 months experience working in a classroom or pre-school setting is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in a positive and empathetic manner with children.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills required.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Physical activities require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body, such as bending, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, and handling of various types of materials. Heavy lifting may be required.
