The Role
As a Tax Manager at Glenn Burdette, you will prepare and review federal, state, local and special tax returns focused on business and individual taxation, flow-through entities, closely held corporations, and tax planning. You will conduct tax research, advise on tax matters, train and supervise staff, and manage client relationships to ensure high quality work and excellent customer relations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain contact with clients throughout the year to proactively identify their accounting and tax needs.
- Manage expectations of services including work products, timing, and value to be delivered.
- Demonstrate excellent project‑management skills, inspire teamwork, and utilize current technology and tools to enhance timeliness and effectiveness of deliverables.
- Plan, supervise, review, and control engagements of all sizes for tax compliance, ensuring compliance with professional and firm standards and deadlines.
- Manage time and client projects efficiently to achieve realistic realization rates and supervise others to meet project budgets.
- Lead a group of tax staff, including their career development, training, performance, and productivity.
- Provide on‑the‑job training; review complex tax returns prepared by staff and offer constructive feedback.
- Generate new client revenues through nurturing and expanding external referral networks according to a personal marketing plan.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of tax accounting experience with individual and business tax returns.
- Active licensed CPA.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Excellent project‑management, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to multi‑task and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
- A strong desire for career advancement and a goal toward future firm ownership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Consultative/advising experience within public accounting.
- Knowledge of estate, gift, trust management, and experience with IRS and/or FTB audits.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, CCH Axcess/Practice Management, CSI Depreciation, CaseWare, BNA Tax Planning Software, and Microsoft Office.
