The Opportunity

Murray Moyer is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead the firm's tax preparation and advisory practice. This is a leadership role for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, mentoring staff, improving processes, and delivering technically sound tax solutions.

The Tax Manager will oversee tax planning, preparation, review, compliance, and advisory services for individuals and businesses while collaborating closely with firm leadership and legal professionals on complex client matters.

This is a full-time hybrid position based in Raleigh, North Carolina, offering flexibility for remote work while maintaining regular in-office collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the firm's tax preparation team and related workflow processes
  • Review and prepare complex individual, partnership, S corporation, corporation, trust, and nonprofit tax returns
  • Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services for clients
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business owners and individual taxpayers
  • Collaborate with attorneys and senior team members on tax controversy and resolution matters
  • Communicate with taxing authorities and assist with audits, notices, and compliance issues
  • Develop, mentor, and support tax staff and bookkeeping professionals
  • Maintain accountability for deadlines, quality standards, and client deliverables
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, technology utilization, and internal processes
  • Participate in prospective client consultations and discovery meetings
  • Stay current on federal and state tax law developments and advise clients accordingly

Qualifications

Required

  • Five or more years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, tax advisory, or a related environment
  • Strong experience reviewing and preparing complex tax returns
  • Comprehensive understanding of tax compliance, planning, and advisory services
  • Proven leadership experience supervising staff and managing multiple engagements
  • Exceptional client relationship and communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Taxation or advanced tax coursework
  • Experience with tax controversy, IRS representation, or tax resolution matters
  • Experience implementing workflow improvements and practice management initiatives
