Tax Manager | Hybrid (Fridays remote) | $170,000 to $200,000 base + bonus
The short version: A well established boutique CPA firm is hiring a Tax Manager to lead the tax function for a client roster most managers would need three firms to see.
Why this seat is different
You will not be siloed into one industry or buried in a single compliance cycle. This firm serves as the outsourced tax and accounting arm for a nationally recognized law firm, plus a portfolio of sophisticated privately held clients. On any given week your work spans:
- Investment partnerships: 8 partnerships, roughly 100 K-1s, 200+ partners, multi-state allocations and tiered structures
- High net worth individuals: approximately 100 personal returns tied to those partners, including their trusts and private foundations
- Construction and real estate: entity level planning, cost recovery, multi-state nexus
- A large temporary staffing company: tax and audit work touching 49 states
- Plus a mix of smaller closely held businesses that keep the work interesting
If you like complexity, this is complexity with a purpose. Real structures, real planning conversations, real client relationships you own.
What you get here that you will not get at a national firm
- A seat at the table. You report to the partners and talk directly with clients, not through four layers of review.
- Visible partner track. Small firm, no bottleneck, no waiting for a chair to open in 2035.
- Genuine hybrid. Fridays from home, every week, permanently.
- Compensation without the corporate ceiling: $170,000 to $200,000 base, discretionary bonuses, strong 401(k) match, excellent insurance, and 4 weeks PTO.
- Busy season that is demanding but finite. This is not a firm that treats 70 hour weeks as a personality trait.
What we are looking for
- CPA (or CPA eligible with a clear path)
- 6+ years of public accounting tax experience, ideally including partnership work
- Strong 1065 and multi-state background, comfort with K-1s at volume
- 1040, trust, and foundation exposure a plus
- Someone who can review, mentor, and own client relationships rather than just push returns through
Where you fit best
You are a senior or manager at a national or large regional firm who is very good at the technical work and tired of being a resource on a scheduling spreadsheet. Or you are a manager at a smaller shop who has outgrown the client base and wants harder problems. Either way, you want your name on the relationship.
All inquiries are confidential. The firm name and client details are shared once we connect.
