Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our growing public accounting team in New Jersey. This is a generalist tax role suited for a well-rounded tax professional with strong experience preparing, reviewing, and managing a variety of federal and state tax engagements.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in individual, partnership, and S-corporation taxation , along with the ability to manage client relationships, review complex returns, and oversee engagements from planning through completion.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S-corporations, and other closely held businesses.
- Manage multiple tax engagements and ensure timely completion in accordance with firm standards and client deadlines.
- Review tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
- Research complex tax issues and provide practical recommendations to clients and engagement teams.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and develop strong, long-term relationships.
- Assist with tax planning, projections, and other advisory opportunities.
- Identify potential tax-saving opportunities and communicate recommendations effectively.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of Tax Seniors and Staff.
- Assist Partners and Directors with client development and special tax projects.
- Stay current on changes in federal, state, and local tax legislation and regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience , with management-level experience preferred.
- Strong experience with 1040s, partnerships, and S-corporations .
- Broad generalist tax experience; specific industry specialization is not required.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation.
- CPA license preferred or significant progress toward obtaining the CPA.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and client-service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with common tax preparation and accounting software.
