Porter & Company CPAs is a Dallas-based firm founded in 1964 and led by second-generation ownership. We serve high-net-worth entrepreneurs, real estate investors, and fund syndicators across two brands: MyTexasCPA.com and MyFundCPA.com.
We've shifted from compliance-heavy work to an advisory-first model. Our clients' success is our success. We operate on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means we think in rocks, meet with discipline, and hold ourselves accountable to outcomes.
Our core values are Leadership, Excellence, and Honesty. We're building a firm that scales through systems, automation, and people development, not through grinding more hours.
You'll have a real voice in shaping the future of this firm. Your ideas matter. If you see a better way, we want to hear it.
THE ROLE
You're the Tax Manager. You lead our tax advisory and complex clients while managing a team of 2 to 3 tax associates.
What you actually do:
- Advise high-net-worth clients on tax strategy, entity structure optimization, and exit planning
- Own complex partnership returns (1065s with multiple partners and allocations), multistate real estate situations, and layered entity structures
- Translate technical tax concepts into language clients actually understand
- Mentor and develop junior staff so they think strategically and grow faster
- Manage client relationships at the advisory level, not just the transaction level
- Build automation and process improvements that free your team from repetitive work
- Handle the most sophisticated engagements in the firm
You're not grinding compliance. You're solving problems and building advisory relationships.
This is a player-coach role. You do deep technical work AND you lead people. Year 1 focuses on owning complex clients and developing your team. Year 2+, you're positioned for the Tax Director role if you've earned it.
QUALIFICATIONS
You must have:
- CPA or EA credential
- Minimum 5+ years in public accounting (firm experience is required)
- Deep technical foundation in partnership taxation, multistate compliance, and real estate
- Ability to simplify complex tax situations for clients who aren't tax professionals
- Client-facing confidence and the ability to lead advisory conversations
- High agency. You see problems and solve them without waiting for permission
- Strategic thinking. You connect tax planning to business outcomes
- Always learning. You stay current and adapt
- Problem solver mentality. You don't accept "that's how we've always done it"
BENEFITS & TOTAL COMPENSATION
Bonus: 10-20% of base, tied to firm results and team output
- Health insurance
- Vision coverage
- PTO
- Professional education and development budget
- EOS-driven culture with clear accountability
GROWTH & TRAJECTORY
Year 1: You own complex clients, advance our younger staff, and build efficiency into our processes.
Year 2+: You're on the path to Tax Director.
Tax Director to Leadership Team to Partner Program: We have a formal partner program with equity stake. The details are outlined in our partner program documentation. If you want to build something, this is the path.
OUR CULTURE
We operate on EOS. That means:
- Clear rocks (quarterly priorities)
- Regular cadence (weekly leadership meetings, quarterly planning)
- Accountability (we measure what matters)
- Systems thinking (we build processes, not dependencies)
You'll work alongside people who care about client outcomes, want to build something scalable, and aren't afraid to challenge the status quo.
Your voice matters. If you have ideas about how we should evolve, we want to hear them. You're not just executing a playbook. You're helping write it.
