Overview

Location: Cranford, NJ (Hybrid - 3 days in office per week)

Job Type: Full-Time

A growing tax practice is seeking a Tax Manager to join its Trust and Estate team, providing estate planning and tax compliance services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and fiduciaries. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex engagements, advise clients on tax strategies, and manage a team of professionals.

Base pay range

$120,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level fiduciary, personal income, gift, and estate tax compliance and planning services.
  • Review individual, fiduciary, estate, and gift tax returns, as well as estate and trust fiduciary accountings.
  • Handle federal and state tax notices and audits.
  • Research tax laws and prepare technical memoranda and planning strategies.
  • Analyze estate planning legal documents and advise on tax implications.
  • Manage client relationships and oversee all aspects of client accounts.
  • Lead and mentor team members, manage workloads, and support professional development.
  • Participate in business development through networking, public speaking, and authoring articles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; MST, JD, or LL.M. preferred.
  • CPA, EA, or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in trust, estate, and gift tax matters.
  • Strong background in public accounting and estate/inheritance tax compliance (Forms 1041, 709, 5227, ESBT, QSST).
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and client service skills.
  • Experience with tax research tools and software (e.g., ProSystem fx, Axcess Tax, GEMS, Checkpoint, BNA).
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed to meet client deadlines.
