Ready to take ownership of client relationships and build toward a bigger role in a firm’s future?
I’m partnering with an entrepreneurial CPA firm in Chicago’s West Loop to hire a Tax Manager for its business tax practice. The partners are looking for someone who can become a trusted leader, take responsibility for client work, and help create capacity as the business grows.
This role offers the opportunity to work directly with business owners, influence how engagements are managed, and contribute to the firm’s development. For someone with the ambition and ability to grow into it, there is potential for future partnership.
What you’ll do
- Manage business tax engagements, including review, planning, client communication, and delivery.
- Serve as a primary contact for clients, developing a practical understanding of their businesses and tax needs.
- Provide proactive guidance and work with partners to resolve complex issues.
- Take ownership of day-to-day engagement decisions and help alleviate the partners’ workload.
- Coach team members, review their work, and help maintain consistent quality.
- Identify ways to improve processes, strengthen client service, and support the firm’s growth.
- Stay hands-on when needed and help move work through to completion.
Why this role stands out
- Potential to grow toward partnership: Join a firm looking for someone who can develop into a long-term business leader.
- Real ownership: Have a meaningful role in client relationships, team development, and engagement decisions.
- An entrepreneurial environment: Bring ideas, solve problems, and help shape how a smaller firm operates.
- A manageable busy season target: Approximately 40 billable hours per week during busy season.
- Flexibility built on trust: Leadership values accountability and quality work while giving people autonomy over their schedules.
- Competitive compensation: An opportunity to be rewarded for the responsibility and value you bring.
Who we’re looking for
An experienced public accounting tax professional with strong business tax knowledge and the ability to manage engagements and client relationships independently.
Just as important is your approach: you’re a self-starter, follow through on commitments, and are comfortable getting into the details. You enjoy advising business owners and want to contribute to the success of the firm as well as your own career.
If you’re looking for greater influence, closer access to leadership, and a credible opportunity to build toward partnership, I’d welcome a confidential conversation. xhqgsiq
