Tax Manager - Uptown Charlotte, NC - (Hybrid, 3 days in office)
A large, publicly traded global private markets firm is building out a growing Alternative RIC fund structure within its Tax team, and they're looking for an experienced Tax Manager to help shape it.
This role sits at the intersection of tax, accounting, and legal - reviewing partnership K-1s across 1,300+ underlying entities, managing the relationship with external Tax partners (who handle data entry/collection), and serving as the technical reviewer - rather than the preparer.
What you'll do:
- Own RIC tax reporting & Subchapter M compliance for alternative fund structures
- Review and manage external tax partners' (Big 4) work product - gather, prep, and quality-check before it moves forward
- Dig into partnership K-1s at the individual entity level and track tax basis across investments
- Bridge tax, accounting, and legal on the right tax treatment for fund structures
- Support international filings (Forms 8865, 5471, 926, 8621) and ASC 740 provisions
- Report directly to the Managing Director
What you bring:
- 8-12 years of progressive tax experience in asset management, mutual funds, or alternative investments
- Strong partnership taxation background is a must - mutual fund/RIC experience is a plus, not a requirement (we'll train)
- Big 4 public accounting background strongly preferred; CPA or MST a plus
- A critical thinker who can research independently, problem-solve, and drive process improvement
- Comfortable managing high volume and detail-heavy work (trackers, reconciliations, deadlines)
This is a hands-on, build-it-yourself opportunity for someone who wants to grow into a technical tax expert within a fast-scaling private wealth platform - not just execute compliance, but help design how the function runs.
