Tax Manager
Position Overview
Seeking a Tax Manager to lead delivery of high-quality tax compliance, planning, and consulting services for corporate, partnership, trust/estate and high net worth individual clients. The role combines technical tax work (federal, state & local, and international), client relationship management, team supervision, quality control and process improvement. Ideal candidates will have deep experience across passthrough entities, corporate taxation, trust and estate taxation, and advanced proficiency with tax research and software tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute federal, state and local tax compliance and return preparation for entities and individuals, including 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041, 709, 706 and related schedules
- Provide tax planning and structuring advice for high net worth individuals (HNW/HNWI), trusts, estates and family offices, coordinating with wealth advisors and fiduciaries
- Lead partnership and corporate tax engagements including partnership allocations, K-1 review, basis and capital account analysis, passthrough entity planning and review of S-Corp and C-Corp matters
- Oversee tax provision work (ASC 740) and support tax accounting activities for GAAP/IFRS reporting
- Supervise, train and review work of senior managers, tax supervisors and staff; ensure quality control, risk management and timely delivery
- Perform tax research and prepare memos on complex federal, state, international and transfer pricing matters; support M&A tax due diligence and structuring
- Coordinate SALT planning, nexus and apportionment studies, indirect tax (sales & use, VAT/GST) and payroll/withholding tax matters as needed
- Manage tax controversy and audit responses, coordinate with external counsel, and represent clients in examinations and disputes
- Leverage technology to improve efficiency: implement and use tax software (ONESOURCE, CCH, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, Vertex, CorpTax), advanced Excel, VBA, Alteryx/Power Query and SQL; support ERP integrations (SAP, Oracle)
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field; advanced degree (JD or LLM) or Masters in Taxation a plus
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) strongly preferred; active licensure required for some client engagements
- 5+ years of public accounting or professional services tax experience; prior experience as a Senior Tax Manager or Tax Supervisor preferred
- Deep technical knowledge of individual, partnership, corporate, trust and estate taxation, including returns and forms (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041, 709, 706)
- Experience serving high net worth individuals, family offices, trusts and fiduciary matters
- Proven experience with SALT, international tax, transfer pricing, tax provision (ASC 740), R&D tax credits, M&A tax and due diligence, payroll/withholding and indirect tax issues
- Strong tax research and writing skills; familiarity with BEPS/OECD guidelines and treaty analysis a plus
- Hands-on experience with tax compliance and research software (ONESOURCE, CCH, Thomson Reuters ProSystem fx/UltraTax, Vertex, CorpTax)
- Advanced Excel skills (including VBA), and experience with Alteryx/Power Query, SQL and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle)
- Excellent client-facing skills, project management, team leadership and mentorship abilities
- High attention to detail, strong quality control orientation and experience managing risk in tax engagements
- Ability to prioritize multiple engagements, meet deadlines and communicate complex tax matters clearly to clients and stakeholders
