About The Role We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our growing public accounting team. This role is ideal for a collaborative tax professional who enjoys building strong client relationships while managing complex tax engagements for individuals and businesses.

As a Tax Manager, you will oversee the preparation and review of a wide variety of tax returns, provide strategic tax planning and consulting, mentor staff, and ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, client-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where quality, accuracy, and exceptional service are top priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Manage multiple tax engagements simultaneously while ensuring all filing deadlines are met.
  • Develop proactive tax planning strategies that help clients minimize tax liabilities and achieve their financial objectives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients by providing trusted tax guidance and exceptional client service.
  • Research and interpret tax laws, regulations, and emerging legislation to ensure compliance and identify planning opportunities.
  • Represent clients and manage communications with the IRS and state tax authorities, including responding to notices and supporting tax examinations.
  • Review financial information and collaborate with accounting teams to ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Assist with financial statement audits and other accounting-related engagements as needed.
  • Mentor, train, and review the work of junior tax professionals while fostering their professional development.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding client financial information.
  • Identify process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall client service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • 5+ years of progressive public accounting experience, including experience managing tax engagements.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws, tax compliance, and tax planning.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for individuals and various business entities.
  • Prior audit experience is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
  • Experience with tax preparation and accounting software such as Lacerte, ProConnect, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis functions.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring or supervising team members.
