Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance and planning for a diverse portfolio of corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and individual clients. The Tax Manager will supervise tax return preparation, ensure accurate and timely filings, manage client relationships, and provide strategic tax planning and research. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, experience in public accounting, and familiarity with tax research and preparation tools such as CCH.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review preparation of corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and individual tax returns to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely filing.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train a team of tax professionals; oversee workload distribution and review junior staff work for quality and consistency.
  • Serve as the primary client contact for tax matters, build and maintain strong client relationships, and communicate complex tax issues in clear, practical terms.
  • Perform tax research and provide strategic tax planning recommendations to minimize client liabilities and support business objectives.
  • Coordinate and support tax audits and inquiries by federal, state, and local tax authorities; prepare responses and manage documentation.
  • Oversee tax projections, quarterly estimated tax calculations, and cash tax planning processes.
  • Utilize CCH and other tax software to prepare, review, and file tax returns; recommend process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to professional standards and firm policies, including rigorous quality control and documentation practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments (audit, advisory, payroll) to deliver integrated client services and identify cross-sell opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters degree or advanced tax coursework preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required or Enrolled Agent (EA) with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with demonstrated experience managing tax engagements and supervising staff.
  • Proven experience preparing and reviewing business and individual tax returns, including corporate (C corp, S corp), partnerships, fiduciary, and high-net-worth individual filings.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and multi-state tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and research software, especially CCH; solid Excel skills and comfort with tax technology and automation tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and tax research abilities, with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality client service under pressure.
