Tax Director - Private Client Services

Job Overview

We are seeking a Tax Director to join the Private Client Services (PCS) practice in Elgin, IL. The role involves leading tax compliance and consulting services for individuals, S‑Corporations, and partnerships, while mentoring and managing staff accountants.

Responsibilities

• Review tax projections, workpapers, and Federal and State Individual and Fiduciary tax returns.
• Oversee and manage the tax return process, identifying and resolving tax issues.
• Apply corporation and partnership accounting and tax concepts.
• Mentor, train, and manage staff accountants, ensuring deadlines are met and workloads are prioritized.
• Effectively manage multiple tax engagements in a team environment and work independently when required.
• Identify opportunities for new and expanded client services.
• Lead and manage engagements, including budgeting, billing, and engagement economics.
• Maintain a highly proactive approach to client service.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent field (required).
• CPA or JD (required).
• 10+ years of recent tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience in public accounting or a mix of public/private practice.
• 10+ years of progressive tax experience providing tax compliance and consulting services for individuals and S‑Corporations or partnerships.
• 6+ years of experience working in complex technical tax.

Preferred or Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in tax or equivalent field (preferred).
• Experience acquiring new clients and growing a book of business.

Salary

For Illinois candidates, the expected salary range is $180,000 to $250,000. Compensation may vary in other geographies based on market differences.

Elgin, IL (preferred).
