Company Overview
We are partnering with an established middle-market private equity investment firm with a diversified fund platform and a long track record of investing across multiple industries. As the firm continues to grow its investment platform and internal finance organization, it is expanding its in-house tax function to support increasingly sophisticated fund structures and investment activity.
The Opportunity
This is a newly created Tax Senior Manager position offering the opportunity to become the firm's dedicated in-house tax leader. The role combines oversight of fund tax compliance, partnership taxation, management company tax matters, and transaction support while partnering closely with executive leadership, investment professionals, external advisors, and auditors.
Unlike many tax leadership roles, this position offers meaningful ownership without requiring year-round busy-season hours. While the workload naturally fluctuates around filing deadlines, the position provides a balanced environment with significant long-term growth potential. This role remains hands-on, with responsibility for both technical review and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee annual tax compliance for multiple investment funds and related entities
- Review partnership, corporate, and investment vehicle tax filings prepared by external advisors
- Manage investor tax reporting, partnership allocations, and K-1 review processes
- Monitor changes in tax legislation affecting investment funds and partnership structures
- Coordinate with outside tax advisors throughout the annual compliance cycle
Partnership & Management Company Tax
- Oversee partnership tax compliance for management company entities
- Review federal, state, and multi-state tax filings
- Manage quarterly tax estimates, partner distributions, and related tax calculations
- Oversee annual information reporting requirements
- Support partner tax planning and related compliance activities
International & Technical Tax
- Coordinate international tax reporting requirements
- Support withholding tax compliance and cross-border reporting obligations
- Assist with technical tax research and preparation of accounting memoranda
- Evaluate tax implications of complex transactions and investment structures
Investment & Transaction Support
- Partner with investment professionals on acquisitions, recapitalizations, restructurings, and exit transactions
- Support tax diligence for new investments and strategic transactions
- Assist with structuring analyses and transaction-related tax planning
- Coordinate with legal counsel and external advisors on complex tax matters
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Serve as the firm's primary internal tax resource
- Manage relationships with outside accounting firms and tax advisors
- Partner closely with Finance, Legal, and Investment teams
- Support annual audits and financial reporting requirements
- Recommend process improvements and strengthen tax-related controls
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA required
- 7–10+ years of progressive tax experience
- Strong background in partnership taxation
- Experience supporting private equity funds, alternative investments, or investment management organizations
- Deep understanding of fund structures and partnership tax compliance
- Experience reviewing complex federal and multi-state tax filings
- Familiarity with international tax reporting requirements is a plus
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax matters to non-tax professionals
