Summary:
The Tax Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s tax strategy, compliance, planning and risk management. This role is crucial to ensuring that our company remains compliant with all tax regulations while optimizing our tax position. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in tax management within the distribution or related industries and will be able to navigate complex tax regulations and policies related to both direct and indirect tax.
This position partners closely with Accounting, Treasury, Legal and external advisors to maintain compliance, minimize risk, and support business operations across a complex multi-state environment.
Reports to: DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting with CPA designation and / or advanced degree in Taxation highly desirable
10+ years tax experience, combination of public and industry preferred
5+ years management experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong experience in federal and multi-state tax compliance
Knowledge of tax reporting and tax accounting concepts

Ability to effectively interact with senior executives and external advisors
Strong sense of teamwork and ability to work well with employees at all levels of the organization

This position operates primarily in person in a professional office environment which may require sitting for extended periods.

Essential Job Functions:
Develop and implement the company’s overall tax strategy in alignment with business objectives.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations and reporting requirements.
Manage and oversee the preparation and review of all tax returns and filings.
Lead and mentor the direct and indirect tax teams, providing guidance and support to ensure professional growth and development.
Identify and mitigate tax risks by maintaining strong internal controls and implementing best practices.
Monitor tax legislation and regulatory developments impacting the company.
Provide practical guidance on tax implications of business initiatives and organizational changes.
Partner with external advisors on tax controversy matters.
Manage tax audits and disputes, representing the company’s interests effectively.
Support annual tax provision processes.
Oversee tax account reconciliations and tax-related financial reporting matters.
Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, controls, documentation, and compliance efficiency.
Support automation and standardization initiatives within the tax function.
Maintain strong internal controls and governance over tax processes.
