An Elevate platform firm is seeking an experienced Tax Director specializing in individual and business entity tax returns. This high-impact leadership role will help shape the firm's tax strategy, client service, and team development. Working closely with the Tax Partners, the Tax Director will enhance client service, develop team members, and grow the firm's presence in key markets.
Overview
The ideal candidate brings a strong generalist tax background with extensive experience serving high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, and pass-through entities, and is comfortable with tax consulting work in addition to compliance. In addition to technical tax leadership, this individual will serve as a trusted advisor to clients while playing an active role in practice growth, business development, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and expand the firm's individual and pass-through entity tax practice, with responsibility for client service, team development, and revenue growth.
- Provide high-quality tax advisory and compliance services to high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, family offices, founders, executives, and pass-through entities.
- Review complex individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including equity compensation matters (RSUs, ISOs, NSOs), multi-state filings, and K-1 reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and review of partnership and S corporation tax returns (Forms 1065 and 1120S), including partner and shareholder allocations and capital account maintenance.
- Advise clients across a variety of industries, including biotechnology, software and technology, construction, real estate, professional services, healthcare, manufacturing, and consulting.
- Consult with clients on federal, state, and local tax matters, including residency and nexus issues, pass-through entity taxation, and tax planning opportunities.
- Conduct technical tax research on complex individual and business tax matters, including Section 199A, qualified small business stock (QSBS), compensation planning, and other advanced tax issues.
- Develop engagement budgets, manage project economics, oversee staffing assignments, and prepare practice management reports.
- Drive practice growth through proactive business development, referral networking, and expansion of services to existing and prospective clients.
- Serve as a strategic advisor on business structuring, succession planning, transactions, wealth transfer strategies, and exit planning.
- Mentor and develop tax professionals while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and exceptional client service.
- Collaborate with Elevate leadership and shared services teams to leverage technology, innovation, and best practices across the platform.
Qualifications
- Active CPA license required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience, preferably with a Big Four, national, or regional accounting firm.
- Experience with CCH Axcess, Claude, BlackOre, and Aiwyn is a plus but not required.
- Significant expertise in complex individual taxation and pass-through entity compliance and consulting.
- Proven experience serving high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, executives, family-owned businesses, and closely held companies.
- Experience advising clients in construction, real estate, technology, professional services, healthcare, manufacturing, and other middle-market industries.
- Strong technical tax research, planning, and consulting capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing tax professionals.
- Excellent communication, project management, leadership, and organizational skills.
