Principal Engineer

Location: Pierre, USA.
Salary: $20-30/Hour.
Company: Target.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to set the technology strategy for advertising technology systems, including DSP, SSP, and ad servers.
• Evaluate build‑vs‑buy decisions for new capabilities, balancing long‑term versus short‑term tradeoffs.
• Guide the design, development, and operationalization of software and infrastructure engineering initiatives across multiple product portfolios and drive adoption.
• Lead and approve engineering efforts to meet functional and non‑functional requirements, helping teams solve complex business challenges through current technical solutions.
• Partner with engineering leaders to build a high‑performing engineering team and provide technical management, training, motivation and participate in the selection of technical skill.
• Act as an idea leader and actively contribute to the external technical community.

Qualifications

• MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of experience in software development or delivery.
• 4+ years of experience in strategic planning and building technical roadmaps.
• Proven track record of solving complex technical issues across multiple technical or domain areas.
• Deep knowledge of ad‑tech business fundamentals and understanding how technology can solve business problems while translating business vision into technical strategy and understanding financial implications.
• Preferred experience in building and/or integrating DSP, SSP, or ad server technology systems for self‑service advertising.
• Experience with scalable, high‑performance distributed systems and OOP technologies such as Java/Scala/C++/Python, SQL and NoSQL (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, graph database, etc.), Kubernetes, containerization, cloud tech and similar.
• Leadership skills and ability to guide others, with strong interpersonal skills and proven problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.

Employment Options

Full‑time remote or hybrid, primarily based on target’s preference. Hybrid arrangements may involve a mix of virtual and on‑site work in a target region. Full‑time remote arrangements allow the team member to work full‑time from a remote location that is not a target facility and travel to headquarters up to four times in a year.

Compensation

Colorado, Connecticut, or Nevada residents may receive a salary range of $169,000 to $305,000. Pay is based on education, experience, certifications and other factors.
