Tailor Shop Manager: NYC, Hoboken, NJ & Greenwich, CT
Alts | Alteration Specialists is looking for a dynamic, professional Tailor Shop Manager distinguished by charisma, teaching ability, and professional integrity. This full‑time role in New York includes fittings, machine sewing, representing the studio internally, building client relationships, and using sophisticated tools for management decisions. Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management and Fittings
- Maintain a professional, warm, welcoming studio environment
- Conduct fittings according to the Alteration Specialists Standard
- Build relationships with clients, influencers, brands, and stylists
- Be present and address all client issues in a professional manner – offer creative solutions
- Ensure fitters follow all Alts guidelines and protocols during fittings
Machine Production and Sewing
- Demonstrate meeting personal production targets
- Teach and develop the tailoring team to deliver on a variety of garments and alterations
- Cultivate proficiency with men’s, women’s, and bridal alterations as well as difficult fabrics
Analytics
- Track production daily and communicate with front desk and operations team to ensure accurate documentation
- Communicate with leadership and other locations to ensure studios operate as an integrated whole
- Provide weekly schedule to management and notify of absences or timesheet updates
- Represent the studio to the larger organization, advocate for needs, and lead rollout of company‑wide changes
- Continuously evaluate processes for efficiency and propose solutions to optimize the organization
- Record RFAs accurately and report to the system
Team Management
- Encourage respect among the team and address unprofessional behavior or tardiness
- Work with HR to issue formal write‑ups, explain reasons, and enforce performance improvement plans
- Distribute work strategically based on forecasting tools and individual capabilities
- Coach fitters not confident in marking alterations or required dialogue during fittings
- Develop opportunities to strengthen tailors and fitters’ skills
- Complete full QC on all orders, yours and your team's, before client pick‑up
- Identify QC errormakers, coordinate with Head of Talent Development, and develop training plans
- Ensure overall quality of all garments QC’ed and worked on in the shop
Onboarding of the Team and Human Resources
- Welcome new tailors, show stations, and introduce them to the team; assign work based on skills and preferences
- Assist tailors with scanning and ensure all work is scanned out by end of day; maintain PIN operations
- Facilitate production reports, communicate discrepancies to Finance via Slack
- Secure production report signatures by Tuesday at noon of payroll week
- Participate in and administer performance reviews with HR

Experience
- 10+ years of alteration tailoring experience required
- 4-5 years of general fitting experience required
- 1-2 years of fitting both men's and women's garments required
- Proficiency in English required
- Strong written communication skills required
- 1-3 years of management experience desired
- Working knowledge of Excel desired

Compensation
