The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) Bureau of Family Health & Nutrition (BFHN) is seeking a Tableau Developer to support the surveillance programs in the Division for Surveillance, Research, and Promotion of Perinatal Health, in developing two data dashboards using Tableau. The two dashboards will share data collected through their active, state-wide, population-based surveillance, on birth defects and on neonatal abstinence syndrome, such as incidence, characteristics of the birth person-infant dyad, and related health outcomes. The dashboard is intended for public health professionals, healthcare providers, policy makers, and the general public.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Design, develop, and maintain Tableau dashboards and reports that meet business requirements and ensure high quality data visualizationsWork with business users to understand their needs, analyze data sources and develop appropriate data modelsDevelop and maintain data pipelines that feed the Tableau server environment & Tableau CloudPerform Tableau Administrative tasks including monitoring, performance tuning, managing tableau users, groups, projects, permissions and security settings.Create and maintain technical documentation for all Tableau development workParticipate in data governance, security, and compliance activitiesUtilize SQL in data analytics to collect, understand, transform, cleanse, store, and share data in a privacy-preserving way (ETL)Utilize Tableau Prep builder for data cleaning, transformation, and integration tasksOptimize SQL queries to support tableau visualization and reporting.Troubleshoot Tableau and SQL related issues and provide timely resolutions.Stay up to date with emerging Tableau features and technologies, and propose new solutions to improve our data visualization capabilitiesIdentify patterns and meaningful insights from data through qualitative and quantitative analysis, including but not limited to predictive modeling and data miningPrepare reports and presentations that accurately convey data trends and associated analysisCollaborate with functional areas to develop and maintain performance metrics, measurements, methods, and targetsEstablish standards for data processing and visualization within the programWork side-by-side with data & Enterprise architects to define problems, build models, and perform analysis to identify and implement recommendationsAssist in functional, performance, ADA testing, governance, data quality, training, and documentation efforts.Communicate with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements and describe data modeling decisions and data visualization strategies SkillsQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in computer science & information technology / business (Data Analytics) / Statistics / Data Science8+ years of advanced, preferably expert-level, experience with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep8+ years of SQL experienceAdvanced, preferably expert-level skills with Tableau Desktop, Prep, Tableau Server and Tableau CloudKnowledge of data visualization principles and effective dashboard designExperience with ADA compliance & ToolsKnowledge of Javascript and Tableau extensionsAttention to detail and the ability to reconcile dataAbility to troubleshoot issues reported by users
