Position Overview

We invite applicants with a PhD, MD-PhD,or equivalent degree who will be expected to develop and maintain arigorous, extramurally-funded research program in Cellular andMolecular Pathobiology with relevance to human disease. Whileresearch is the primary focus, the candidate will also contributeto the academic mission by participating in classroom teaching atan appropriate level.

Duties & Responsibilities

Research Areas

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to CancerBiology & Therapeutics, Immunology, Inflammation, Metabolism,Proteostasis, Genomics, Proteomics, andBioinformatics/Computational Biology. Candidates focusingon cancer research will find ample opportunities for collaborationwith over 1,000 researchers engaged in basic, translational, andclinical cancer research at the VCU Massey Comprehensive CancerCenter. Those pursuing other research areas will benefit fromcollaborations across multiple basic health sciences departmentswithin the VCU School of Medicine.

All candidates will have access to VCU’s robust research corefacilities, including the Tissue Data Acquisition & AnalyticsCore (TDAAC), which currently collects biospecimens from cancerpatients, supports a patient-derived xenograft program, and isexpanding its biospecimen collection to other diseases. Additionalcore resources include, but are not limited to, theGenomics/Next-Generation Sequencing Core, Proteomics Core,Microscopy Core, Flow Cytometry Core, Transgenic Mouse Core, CancerMouse Models Core, High-Performance Research Computing Core, andthe Lipidomics & Metabolomics Core.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree
  • Peer-reviewed publications demonstrating researchproductivity
  • A clear vision for a research program that leverages VCU’sresearch portfolio
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to secure extramural funding
  • Integration of state-of-the-art technologies (e.g.,spatial/single-cell omics, organoid models) into the researchprogram

Salary Range

  • Salary will be commensurate with experience andqualifications
  • Competitive startup funds will be provided to support researchprogram development
