Joby Aviation Verification EngineerJoby Aviation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Verification Engineer to join our Integrated Flight and Propulsion Control System (IFPCS) team at our Santa Cruz, CA facility. The Verification Engineer will report to the IFPCS Verification Team Lead and will play a key role in advancing the verification of flight and propulsion control system for the JAS4-1 eVTOL aircraft.The Integrated Flight and Propulsion Control System has responsibility for the aircraft primary flight control functions — including pilot inceptors, flight sensors, data processing and communications, control laws, control surface and propulsion effectors, vehicle navigation, and air data sensors — as well as some vehicle management functions, which are all combined to effect stability, guidance and control of the aircraft.The position offers the opportunity to apply a broad range of systems and verification engineering skills, with accountabilities spanning requirements verification, Failure Mode and Effects Testing (FMET), test automation, and certification artifact preparation. The program is currently in the late Detailed Design Phase, with a principal focus on system integration, design validation, and verification activities.ResponsibilitiesDevelop, review or contribute to aspects of Verification activities such as test plans, test cases, and test procedures for an integrated Flight Control/Propulsion systemConduct verification activities to confirm aircraft control system behavior, including dynamic aircraft response resulting from real or simulated failuresPerform data analyses and test report generation based on results of verification test campaignsManage problem reports, resolve technical issues, and track findings to closureCollaborate with the Analysis Team on simulation test cases supporting IFPCS program milestones and formal performance reportsDevelop automation capabilities to support execution of Verification Test CasesWork with the IFPCS team to develop verification test cases as a means of compliance to FAA regulatory requirementsPrepare verification artifacts, briefing materials, and technical documentation for design reviews, program reviews, safety-of-flight reports, and regulatory auditsAssist in creating Type Certification documents and Verification reports for submittal to Regulatory AuthoritiesReport technical risks identified, and provide idea opportunities associated with IFPCS verification activitiesCollaborate cross-functionally with Product Design, Systems Engineering, Quality, Development Assurance, Airworthiness, and Program Management teams on impacts of the verification activitiesProvide guidance and mentoring to team members, on any technical expertise related to the development and execution of verification activitiesRequiredBachelor of Science (or higher) in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics; Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering preferredApplication of disciplined systems engineering processes, including requirements management, safety assessment conceptsDevelopment of requirements-based Verification Test Case and Test Procedures developmentExperience working in a laboratory test environmentExperience in a verification or test engineering role within an aerospace or technology company within complex systems environmentsSkills and ability to address technical issues, analyze test results, deduce root causes, and provide solutions to engineering problemsFamiliarity with digital electronic equipment operating in an integrated systemWillingness to learn the operation of aerospace equipment applicable to Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraftWorking knowledge and experience with digital engineering application tools, or the ability to rapidly learn and apply themExcellent verbal and technical writing skills in EnglishAbility to work both collaboratively and in a self-sufficient mannerProficient with Microsoft Office and Google DocsFor this role, the candidate must be on site based at Joby's Santa Cruz, CA locationWillingness to visit and work at other nearby Joby facilities as needed to perform assignmentsDesiredMinimum 3 years of aerospace industry experience in systems verification, Flight Controls, or Propulsion system developmentExperience integrating and testing complex, highly integrated systemsFamiliarity with the verification aspects Development Assurance processes according to SAE ARP4754 and RTCA DO178Familiarly with digital Electric Motor control principles and mechanizationAutomation of execution and data analyses verification activitiesWorking knowledge or the ability to support of DO-160G Environmental Qualification testing and test data reviewWorking knowledge and experience with tools used in verification activities such as Grafana, PythonWorking knowledge or exposure to digital modeling and simulation using MATLAB/SimulinkWorking knowledge or studies in aircraft systems, relevant equipment, or System Engineering principlesFamiliarity with Certification RegulationsExperience with electric vehicle or electric powertrain technologyProficiency with Requirements Management tools (Siemens Polarion is a plus)Experience with Atlassian tools including Jira, Confluence, and CrucibleExperience with model-based engineering using MATLAB/SimulinkFamiliarity with Dassault Systems Engineering and Management tools (Enovia)Additional InformationCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

The target base pay for this position is $126,700 - $153,700 / year.
