Position OverviewEmerald Technical Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a fast-paced, mission-critical defense IT environment. This is an approximately 6-month assignment with strong potential to transition into a Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) contract position as the follow-on contract is stood up.The Systems Engineer will be responsible for managing and maintaining Cisco networking infrastructure, performing Windows systems administration, and collaborating with the Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to ensure systems remain secure, compliant, and operational. This role blends hands-on systems work with cybersecurity responsibilities in a DoD environment.This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer looking to establish a long-term presence in a high-impact defense program.Key ResponsibilitiesSystems Administration & InfrastructureManage and maintain Cisco networking devices across the enterprise environmentPerform system administration tasks on Windows machines including configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshootingHandle moderate networking responsibilities in support of mission operationsEnsure high availability and performance of critical systemsCybersecurity & ComplianceCollaborate closely with the ISSO to implement and maintain security measuresConduct regular patch management activities to ensure system security and compliancePerform Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) assessments and implement required security controlsConduct regular system audits and provide reports to managementDocumentation & Process ImprovementBuild repositories of information for current trend analysis, operational continuity, and archive purposesMonitor internal deliverable statuses to maintain accountability, drive processes to completion, and communicate status to applicable managers, leaders, and points of contactPerform fact-finding missions to pinpoint bottlenecks in processes and assist in developing solutionsCollaboration & Cross-Functional SupportWork with team members to develop cross-team functionalities and strengthen organizational capabilityAssist with projects and initiatives as assignedRequired QualificationsActive TS/SCI security clearanceActive IAT Level II Certification (CCNA, SSCP, CND, Security+ CE) or aboveBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; 10 years of relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a degreeStrong knowledge of Windows administration including system configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshootingKnowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM)Proficiency in Linux server administrationFamiliarity with DoD security requirements and STIG implementationStrong written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailStrong time management and prioritization skills with the ability to meet deadlinesStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with coworkers, partners, and customersPreferred QualificationsCertified Network Defender (CND) certificationExperience working in a DoD environmentFamiliarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet)Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)Scripting skills in Bash and PowerShellFamiliarity with a diverse array of networking products (e.g., Juniper, Ubiquiti, Palo Alto)BenefitsCompetitive compensation package and benefits.Professional development and certification opportunities.Collaborative and supportive team environment.High potential for long-term placement on follow-on SETA contract.
