Job Description The System Protection Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Luminant's Generation fleet protection systems which includes, but is not limited to, generator differential, transformer differential, generator breaker failure protection, transmission line, plant-switchyard interface, and electric auxiliary system protective relaying.The System Protection Engineer position can work independently to identify and perform tasks as required to meet objectives. The position will establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Level of position will be determined by education and years of applicable experience.

Primary work location may be based at any Luminant site or corporate office. Key Roles & Responsibilities Working independently, the incumbent will:Identify and perform tasks as required to meet objectivesLead interpretation and analysis of complex issuesCoordinate assigned projects, studies and initiatives through completionComply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environmentPrepare and present reports including recommendations to resolve complex issuesParticipate in and on occasion lead special project and committeesLead complex problem solving effortsSubject matter expert for electrical engineering discipline and equipment. Develops and interprets system engineering standards.Knowledge of ETAP (short circuit, load flow, stability, arc flash, and relay coordination) and SEL software (analysis and relay setting).

Working knowledge in test equipment software is a plus.In depth knowledge of analog and digital based generator voltage regulators and power system stabilizersIn depth knowledge of electro-mechanical relays as well as SEL/GE microprocessor relays, SEL communication processors (2032 & 3530) and disturbance monitoring equipment.Demonstrates extensive knowledge of electrical equipment and systems, electrical machinery design and operations.Develops design basis and management of change documentation for protection system design and setting changes.Understanding of power industry electrical equipment protection techniques, NEC, and industrial electrical standardsIn depth knowledge of NERC standards PRC-004, PRC-005, PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-025, PRC-026 and PRC-027.Provide technical guidance to the Luminant or external Protection & Control technicians or individual plantsOpen to Engineer Associate to Principal engineer, grade dependent upon experience. Required Minimum Education and Experience 4 yrs Bachelors degree in Electrical EngineeringMinimum 6 yrs related job experience Skill Requirements • Proficient computer skills in standard Windows programs (Excel, Word, etc)• Team work and collaboration skills across organizational boundaries• Able to communicate complex issues effectively through written and verbal communication• Able to influence by establishing effective working relationships across organizational boundaries• In-depth understanding of power plant equipment and systems• Able to evaluate technical alternatives in light of their economic contribution to the business• Able to apply systematic problem solving processes to address complex issues Work Environment • Occasional long, irregular hours including work in excess of 12-hour days for extended periods• Frequent travel between company facilities, and occasional overnight travel Job Family Engineering Services Company Luminant Generation Company LLC Locations Irving, Texas
