Job Title: Systems & Security Engineer

Our client is hiring a Systems & Security Engineer to help support and secure their critical infrastructure including networking, virtualization, cybersecurity, systems administration, and hands-on escalation support. Responsibilities
- Oversee and support the Hyper-V datacenter environment, including ERP-connected SQL workloads, backup solutions, NetApp storage, and physical host systems.
- Configure and manage networking infrastructure such as Layer 2 switches, VLANs, trunking, cabling, and edge devices (Cisco, Meraki, UniFi).
- Administer and monitor firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, routers, and user access technologies to ensure reliable connectivity and security.
- Drive security operations by managing vulnerability scans, patching, system hardening, endpoint protection, and perimeter defense monitoring.
- Investigate, respond to, and remediate security alerts or user-reported incidents, including after-hours resolution when necessary.
- Maintain and enforce identity and access management policies across Office 365 tenants, Active Directory, and collaboration platforms.
- Serve as an escalation point for the Helpdesk team, providing coverage during high demand or staff absences.
- Develop, document, and uphold standard operating procedures and technical guidelines for systems and security operations.
- Assess, test, and deploy new tools, third-party services, and infrastructure enhancements in partnership with the IT team.
- Collaborate with all internal stakeholders — from staff to executives — to resolve technical issues and gather requirements.
- Mentor Helpdesk and junior IT staff, fostering a collaborative and solutions-oriented culture within the team.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, providing backup coverage and addressing urgent security or infrastructure issues as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience across systems, security, and networking functions
- Hyper-V environments, server/storage management, and backup solutions
- Cisco-based Layer 2 networking (VLANs, trunking, switch configs, cabling)
- Firewalls, VPNs, conditional access, MFA, and endpoint protection
- Microsoft 365 administration and multi-tenant support
- A strong record of independent troubleshooting and responsible change management
- Professionalism and communication skills suited to C-level and frontline staff alike
- A team-first, initiative-driven work style — able to execute without micromanagement
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- PowerShell scripting or automation experience
- Exposure to user security training or awareness programs
- Familiarity with CIS/NIST-aligned best practices and hardening standards
- Previous experience in smaller teams with wide access across the tech stack
