General Information

Saint Paul Public Schools is accepting applications for Long Term Substitute Counselors for the school year. A Minnesota K-12 School Counseling License is required before you can start .

n

We have three long term sub vacancies:

n

    20 weeks starting in November

    Qualifications

    n

    Minimum Qualifications: A valid teaching license in School Counseling K-12 issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.

    n

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities not limited to:

    n

    Ability to work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds in our urban environment.

    n

    Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with school staff.

    n

    Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of representatives in public and private organizations who partner with schools to support student academic, personal/social and career needs.

    n

    Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.

    n

    Technology skills that support student success and data driven programming.

    n

    Knowledge of the reporting procedures relative to the maltreatment of minors

    n

    Knowledge of the roles & services offered by support agencies

    n

    Responsibilities

    n

    Licensed School Counselors are uniquely qualified to address all students¿ academic, career and social/emotional development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success. SPPS School Counselors work to align their programs with the American School Counselor Association National Model.

    n

    Direct Student Services:

    n

    Core Counseling Curriculum

    n

    consistent classroom lessons to proactively teach skills in the following domains:

    n

    academic

    n

    career

    n

    social emotional

    n

    bully prevention

    n

    data will be collected and shared quarterly

    n

    Small Group Counseling

    n

    examples of topics for group counseling:

    n

    academic skills

    n

    career exploration and readiness

    n

    social emotional skills

    n

    mental health and wellness

    n

    family change

    n

    Individual Counseling

    n

    academic planning - appraisal and advisement

    n

    social emotional support

    n

    mental health and wellness

    n

    responsive services

    n

    crisis support

    n

    Indirect Student Services:

    n

    referrals

    n

    consultation

    n

    collaboration

    n

    Program Planning / System Support

    n

    promoting readiness activities for college, career & life

    n

    providing leadership for mental health and wellness, academic supports, and career and college planning

    n

    evaluating school data to expose and address gaps and inequities

    n

    managing student PLP planning technology platforms

    n

    assisting in creating multi-tiered systems of support for ALL students

    n

    empowering and supporting families and staff

    n

    defining, managing, and assessing activities

    n

    providing professional development to staff, including mental health, suicide prevention, college & career readiness

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

n

This is a 10 month position working 20-40 hours per week.

n

Pay range for this position is: $29,292 - $111,399

n

Maximum hiring step = step twenty (20)

n

Transcript - Unofficial transcripts are accepted at the time of hire. You must submit official transcripts within 30 days of your start date. Formal credential evaluation is required for post-secondary education completed outside of the United States.
