Switchboard OperatorInnovation At Work, Inc. is seeking professional and reliable switchboard operators to support 24/7 communication operations at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY.
This role is responsible for managing high-volume incoming calls, routing communications accurately, and supporting critical hospital communication functions including emergency notifications and overhead paging.Available shifts (24/7 coverage required):Weekday shifts (Monday – Friday):Day shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PMEvening shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PMOvernight shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AMWeekend & holiday shifts:Day shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PMEvening shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PMOvernight shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AMSchedules will be assigned based on operational needs. Candidates must be flexible to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.Key responsibilities:Operate multi-line telephone switchboard systems in a high-volume environmentAnswer and route incoming calls to appropriate departments, staff, and on-call personnelInitiate overhead paging announcements and emergency code communicationsMaintain accurate logs of calls, messages, and critical communicationsProvide information and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff in a professional mannerMonitor and respond to urgent and routine communication requestsEnsure timely and accurate message delivery across departmentsMaintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Privacy Act requirementsRequirements:Minimum qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 1–2 years of experience in a call center, switchboard, or customer service roleAbility to handle high call volumes in a fast-paced environmentStrong verbal communication and listening skillsBasic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, call logging systems)Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
