Switch Technician (NAVHOSP)Location: San Diego, CAEmployment Type: Full-Time / ContractHourly Wage: $35.02- $45.67Category: Non-ExemptCitizenship Requirement: U.S. CitizenClearance Requirement: Active Secret ClearancePosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Switch Technician to support telecommunications systems, digital switching platforms, and mission-critical network infrastructure in San Diego, CA. This position requires a highly skilled technician with strong experience in telecommunications systems engineering, Avaya switching systems, Ethernet networks, VLANs, fiber optic infrastructure, and federal/military communications environments.The ideal candidate must be able to independently install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair telecommunications equipment, including digital switching systems, routers, switches, servers, endpoints, PBX systems, and related peripheral equipment.

This role requires strong technical judgment, detailed documentation, and the ability to communicate daily job status with the COR.Avaya Certification / Experience RequirementsStrong emphasis should be placed on Avaya experience and certifications. The preferred candidate should have:Certified Avaya Technician credentialsExperience performing Avaya installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenanceExperience in maintaining Avaya telecommunications systems and associated peripheral equipmentAbility to analyze routine Avaya equipment issues and complete field correctionsExperience interfacing with customers and providing technical assistanceAbility to instruct customers on proper equipment operations and basic maintenance proceduresAbility to complete accurate service reportsAvaya Communication Manager certification/trainingAdvanced Administration Training certificationAvaya Aura familiarity or training preferredKey ResponsibilitiesTelecommunications System Design and ImplementationDesign and develop telecommunications solutions to meet client requirementsSupport Ethernet and fiber optic network implementationOversee installation, configuration, and testing of telecommunications systems and equipmentPerform difficult and complex software and hardware installationsConduct site surveys, system upgrades, moves, additions, and preventative/remedial maintenanceSwitching Systems and Infrastructure SupportInstall, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot routers, switches, servers, endpoints, PBX systems, and digital switching systemsMaintain Avaya and other telecommunications platforms and associated hardwareMonitor and respond to complex technical control facility hardware and software issuesInterface with vendor support groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or degraded system performanceNetwork Performance and OptimizationMonitor and evaluate network performance for compliance with operational standardsOptimize bandwidth, reduce latency, and improve system reliabilityConfigure and monitor communication paths including radio, satellite, LAN/WAN, copper, and fiberTechnical TroubleshootingDiagnose and resolve complex telecommunications issues, including connectivity problems, hardware failures, network interface issues, interoperability concerns, and system faultsProvide technical guidance to support teamsRespond quickly to outages, vulnerabilities, and indicators of compromiseSecurity and Access ControlManage network rights, IP addresses, and role-based access controlsApply patches, run security scans, and close vulnerabilities in a timely mannerSupport cybersecurity readiness and maintain secure handling of sensitive communications trafficDocumentation and ComplianceDevelop and maintain network diagrams, system configurations, test plans, service reports, logs, inventories, and technical documentationMaintain documentation for audits and inspectionsEnsure telecommunications solutions comply with federal, military, industry, and contract-specific requirementsUpdate CAIRS upon completion of task orders or maintenance activitiesCAIRS updates may include binding posts, ports, cable pairs, building and room numbers, adding/removing circuit packs, and OSP recordsCustomer and Stakeholder SupportWork closely with project managers, technicians, government representatives, and the CORProvide daily job status updates to the CORServe as a technical advisor to project teamsSupport system upgrades, new technologies, and client expectationsInterface directly with customers and provide clear technical assistanceRequired QualificationsU.S. CitizenActive Secret Security ClearanceMinimum 5–7 years of experience in telecommunications systems engineering, design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshootingExperience with government or military telecommunications standards and practicesOEM-trained or certified on telecommunications network systems equipmentDemonstrated experience independently performing operation, installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of digital switching systemsExperience supporting high-capacity circuits ranging from T1 to 100Gbps over copper and fiber mediumsExperience with Ethernet networks, VLAN configuration, fiber optic systems, LAN/WAN environments, and telecommunications infrastructureAbility to support cybersecurity readiness, patching, security scans, vulnerability remediation, and protection of sensitive trafficPreferred QualificationsPrior experience supporting DoD, Navy, Marine Corps, DISA, or other federal telecommunications environmentsAvaya Aura experience or formal trainingExperience with CAIRS or similar telecommunications record management systemsStrong understanding of PBX systems, digital switching systems, copper/fiber infrastructure, and OSP recordsExperience with both preventative and remedial maintenance in secure or mission-critical environmentsSummaryThis role requires a highly experienced telecommunications professional who can independently support complex switching systems, Avaya platforms, network infrastructure, and mission-critical communications environments.
