Sustaining EngineerThe Sustaining Engineer supports Crenlo Engineered Cabs Watertown facility, off-highway cab products currently in production by improving safety in manufacturing of current products, support existing products for ease of manufacture, implement quality improvements and execute customer requested design revisions. You must be a result driven individual with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, attention to detail, able to influence the organization and desire to make a difference.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelops and administers Engineering Changes associated with complex welded steel structures, sheet metal components, non-metallic components, HVAC systems, mechanical components and systems, electronics/wire harnesses and other areas associated with the cab Operator's environment in the off-highway industry.Supports development and implementation of design changes for existing products using established Crenlo Engineering Change Request and Engineering Change Notice processes for North American Facilities for all Cab products.Supports requests of North American facility internal customers—Quality, Manufacturing and Purchasing teams by developing and implementing design solutions.Translates end-customer functional requirements into product specifications and develops lowest cost ways to deliver performance requirements.Supports the development and maintenance for configuration of products and options for customer requests and product orders through BOM structures where applicable.Performs implementation of design changes including:Translating of internal and external customer requests and requirements into a detailed and clear Engineering Change RequestCreating and modifying 3D model geometriesCompleting component evaluation and selectionCreating print structures and prints aligned with Crenlo standards and manufacturing requirementsCompleting model checks for interference, parameters and external referencesMaintaining accurate Bills of Materials for design changesWorks in collaboration and support with Cost Estimating, Purchasing, Planning, Sales, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering.Conducts design review activities ensuring that robust technical development processes and methodologies are implemented on products post-launchConducts 8D root cause and corrective action implementation processes.Develop design solutions and manufacturing solutions based on an understanding of internal and external manufacturing processes and capabilities.Conducts product design revision implementation and incorporate facility feedback of design revision execution to optimize cost and quality.Collaborate with Global Engineering team to solve product performance challengesProvides concise and effective technical guidance and communication to internal and external customers; builds effective technical communication paths with internal and external customers.Serves as a customer-facing liaison to resolve current production design-based issues, accurately define and deliver on customer requested production improvements and changes.Develop product design improvements using as a tool CREO-Parametric 4.0 (or higher versions)Makes 3D mathematic models and 2D detailed drawings.Manages the files (drawings) on CREO or PDF format within their respective revisions and releases using PTC-Windchill 11.1 (or higher versions)Identifies design optimization and cost reduction projectsSupports department KPI and TTI metrics to meet goals via assigned/proposed projectsCollaborates with Company stakeholders to develop/improve process/system performance challengesMaintains and continuously improves key Engineering Change Processes and Systems – system design updates through feedback, data access and metricsManages and executes process and systems design of cross-functional systems and processes; complex model year change programs and other projects as assigned.Key Skills and CompetenciesEvidence of proficiency in performing engineering calculationsExcellent organizational and multitasking skillsFlexibility and adaptability to changeDemonstrated ability to produce accurate detailed models and drawingsStrong manufacturing supportIndividual and team problem solving skillsAdvanced Steel structure, sheet metal part design, component assembly experienceDemonstrated and effective project team leadershipStrong understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing requirementsStrong understanding of manufacturing process capabilities for optimal design for manufacturability.Working Conditions/OtherWork Hours/Status: Full-time, 40+ hours/week, Monday through Friday, weekends required as needed.Travel Requirements: up to 10%Environment: The work environment is both office as well as shop floor where numerous processes (cutting, welding, grinding, press brake forming, painting, and assembly) are under constant operation. Shop conditions include frequent exposure (30 – 60%) to noise, odors, dust, drafts, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, and hazardous substances.Physical Requirements statement(s) Sustained visual concentration on small areas, such as monitors and screens is required.
