Job Summary

The Sustainability Program Director is responsible for developing, executing, and monitoring a comprehensive sustainability program aligned with Rady Children Health Orange County’s mission. The Director will implement and promote sustainability strategies and goals across the organization, lead the deployment of actions that reduce ecological damage, and position the organization as a national leader in environmental sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and monitor sustainability initiatives in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Implement and promote sustainability strategies and goals across Rady Children Health Orange County.
  • Lead the deployment of actions that reduce ecological damage and promote long‑standing sustainability practices through building efficiencies and waste management.
  • Engage staff at all levels and position the organization as a national leader in environmental sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Required – 5 years in healthcare sustainability. Preferred – 10+ years.
  • Education: Required – Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, or related field. Preferred – Master’s degree.
  • Skills: Extensive knowledge of local, regional, and national emerging sustainable business strategies, life cycle assessment (LCA), ROI analysis, environmental health and safety guidelines, U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in environmental design, green guidelines for healthcare, and waste/supply‑chain inefficiencies.
  • Communication: Outstanding presentation, verbal, and written skills; comfortable with public speaking, training, and education.
  • Certification: Preferred – U.S. Green Building Council LEED Green Associate.

Pay Range

Minimum: $95,098; Midpoint: $126,006; Maximum: $156,894.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Functional demand is sedentary with very light energy level. Physical requirements include lifting a 10‑lb box overhead, carrying a 15‑lb object, and pushing or pulling a 20‑lb cart. Other activities include bending, carrying objects, climbing, repetitive keyboard use, pinching, reaching forward and overhead, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, and wrist motion. Sensory requirements include color discrimination, depth perception, near and far vision, and hearing. Environmental hazards may include communicable disease, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, noise, temperature extremes, radiation, and uneven surfaces.
