Survey Crew Chief

About the Job

The Survey Crew Chief supervises a survey crew and performs skilled technical surveying work. Responsibilities include planning and reviewing survey projects, conducting Boundary, Topographic, Construction, and ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, researching project information, operating robotic and GPS equipment, performing survey calculations, training and evaluating staff, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring field safety and traffic-control procedures. The position reports to the Field Coordinator and may require up to 20% travel, including occasional overnight stays.

Requirements

• 3 years of surveying field experience and 1 year supervising/training technical surveying staff, OR 1 year as a Survey Instrumentation Technician with PMI.
• Relevant surveying coursework may substitute for 2 years of required experience.
• Knowledge of surveying principles, equipment, calculations, construction plans, specifications, maps, plats, and legal descriptions.
• Experience operating and maintaining mechanical, optical, electronic, robotic, and GPS survey equipment.
• Ability to perform algebra, geometry, and trigonometry calculations.
• Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate survey staff.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a DBIDS or Rapid Gate Pass and pass applicable background screening/drug testing.
• Ability to work outdoors, traverse rough terrain, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%, including possible overnight/weekend stays.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be 18+ and have steel toe boots.

Qualifications

• Survey crew supervision and field operations experience.
• Experience with Boundary, Topographic, Construction, and ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys.
• Experience performing survey calculations and maintaining field records.
• Experience training survey personnel in technical and safety procedures.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of applicable safety, personnel, and workplace policies.
