Role Overview: The Surgical Technician is a vital member of the perioperative team, supporting surgical procedures as a scrub or circulator under RN supervision.
Qualifications & Skills: Requires an Associate's Degree or Surgical Technology certification, with BLS certification within 30 days. Demonstrates proficiency in basic surgical procedures, sterile technique, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, pharmacology, and familiarity with medical equipment such as robotics and lasers. Able to problem-solve and apply knowledge to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a sterile environment through aseptic techniques.
- Assist with organizing supplies, equipment, and ensuring availability of sterile trays.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to facilitate procedures, ensuring necessary instruments are prepared.
- Support patient care activities, including preparing patients and assisting with activities of daily living.
- Accurately document patient data, transcribe physician orders, and manage patient charts.
- Participate in quality improvement, infection control, and supply chain management.
- Assist with sterilization, room turnover, and proper disposal of waste and sharps.
Additional Duties: Facilitate communication between departments, prepare patients for transport, and ensure proper inventory and supply management. The role emphasizes teamwork, attention to sterile technique, and efficient surgical support to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
