Pay Range

$27.81 - $38.62 per hour. Includes $25,000 sign‑on bonus and $10,000 relocation bonus.

Job Overview

Provides support to surgeons, ensuring the highest quality care during surgical procedures at SEARHC, a non‑profit health consortium serving Southeast Alaska. The role requires maintaining sterile technique, managing surgical instruments, and collaborating with the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scrubs in on surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision for a variety of advanced and complex surgeries.
  • Anticipate the surgeon’s preference for materials or instruments and respond proactively.
  • Update nurses on equipment needs and physician preferences, demonstrating sound clinical judgment.
  • Set up sterile tables with instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications/solutions.
  • Take apart and reassemble instruments or equipment for cleaning within the scope of duties, and prepare them for terminal sterilization.
  • Monitor supplies and instruments to ensure sterility and quality assurance.
  • Inventory, monitor, and order supplies as needed.
  • Develop and implement educational programs and learning aids for the department.
  • Provide input on changes to policies, procedures, and patient care standards.
  • Serve as backup for emergency cases that may require two surgical technicians.
  • Participate in assigned committees and perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a technologist training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or another recognized accrediting agency.

  • Preferred: Surgical Technologist Certification (CST). If not certified, certification must be obtained within six months of hire, or a minimum of five years of relevant experience may substitute.
  • Current BLS certification required within three months of hire, then bi‑annually thereafter.
  • Clinical Competency required within three months of hire and every three years.
  • High‑Risk Competency required within three months of hire and annually.

Experience Required

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and instrumentation for surgical procedures.
  • Experience with suturing materials, needles, prosthetic devices, and related supplies.
  • Understanding of wound healing, complications, normal growth, development, and life cycle changes.
  • Proficiency in sterile technique, equipment processing, patient positioning, and handling intra‑operative requests.

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
  • Clinical Competency Assessment – SEARHC.
  • High Risk Competency – SEARHC.
  • Surgical Technician Certification – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
