About the Role
The Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the team, responsible for ensuring that operating rooms are well-prepared, procedures run smoothly, and patients receive safe and effective care. This role involves setting up surgical equipment, assisting surgeons during procedures and maintaining a sterile environment to minimize the risk of infections.
Work Schedule
This is a f ull time position requiring 40 hours per week. The role is onsite with standard working days running Monday-Thursday. We believe in maintaining a healthy work-life balance while ensuring business needs are met.
Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain a sterile field in OR.
- Select and transport required operative setup to rooms for specific case.
- Set up surgical trays and sterilize prior to procedure.
- Monitor OR inventory of equipment and supplies, restock, and report deficiencies.
- Assist in the preparation and aftercare of equipment and supplies.
- Clean rooms between surgical procedures and at end of surgery schedule.
- Assist in restocking rooms according to established standards.
- Test operational efficiency of equipment before and after cases.
- Assist surgeon throughout the case.
- Assist surgeon with closure of wound if requested.
- Sharps and sponge counts with Circulating Nurse, report deficiencies.
- Prepare room and pull supplies the day before the case.
- Check all surgical instruments for defects.
- Set up sharpening of instruments.
- Dispose of medical waste and sharps per protocol.
- Perform other tasks in the OR as assigned by CRNAs or Circulating Nurse.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and maintain standard logs.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement studies.
- Participate in required yearly OSHA education, blood borne pathogens, and MH Code Blue Drills.
- Familiarize self with crash cart and contents and use of AED.
- Attend staff meetings and educational seminars as requested.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Surgical Tech experience - 2 years
- Education: HS Diploma
- Ability to plan ahead of surgeons’ needs.
- Certificates and Licenses: Surgical Technology Certification, Current CPR Certification in the state of C alifornia
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and aseptic techniques.
- Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $ 4 0-$44/hr depending on experience, with additional performance-based incentives and benefits.
