Position Summary
The Surgical Technologist is a vital member of the surgical team who assists in the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in the operating room. Under the direction of surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia providers, the Surgical Technologist prepares the operating room, maintains a sterile field, and provides direct assistance during surgical procedures.

The Surgical Technologist is a vital member of the surgical team who assists in the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in the operating room. Under the direction of surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia providers, the Surgical Technologist prepares the operating room, maintains a sterile field, and provides direct assistance during surgical procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Preoperative Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment
- Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and functioning
- Assist with patient preparation, positioning, draping, and skin preparation as directed
- Participate in surgical time-outs and verification processes in collaboration with the surgical team
- Organize instruments and supplies to anticipate procedural needs
- Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures
- Pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies to surgeons and assistants
- Assist with surgical counts in collaboration with nursing staff
- Assist with suctioning, retraction, and application of dressings as directed
- Handle and prepare specimens according to established protocols
- Assist with breakdown of sterile fields and proper disposal of biohazard materials
- Clean, restock, and prepare operating rooms for subsequent procedures
- Assist with patient transport as directed by nursing staff
- Assist with tracking and documentation of surgical supplies for inventory and billing purposes
Requirements
- Education: Associate degree or certificate from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or equivalent certification.
- Clinical experience through training or 1-2 years prior work in an operating room setting preferred.
- BLS through the American Heart Association
- Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeon needs.
- Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
