PeaceHealth is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at Sacred heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, Oregon.

• Role: Full-time Surgical Technologist
• Schedule : 1.0 FTE working four 10-hour evening shifts each week,
• Unit : 26 OR suites with 22 Main ORs, 2 CVORs, 2 Hybrid
• Special Features: Robotics,Da Vinci Robots IV and 5
• Hospital: PeaceHealthSacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend is a 350 bed hospital, level II trauma center

Location: Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend is a beautiful hospital situated along the Mckenzie River in Springfield, Oregon. Located an hour from the Pacific Ocean and 2 hours South of Portland, Oregon, Springfield and its sister city Eugene are adventure-driven destinations. Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

Essential Functions

• Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team
• Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
• Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
• Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
• Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
• Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Completion of an educational program for surgical technologists accredited by a national accreditation organization approved by the Oregon Health Authority AND hold a current surgical technologist certification i ssued by a nationally accredited certifying organization for surgical technologists.

In lieu of above, may consider:

• Completion of a US Military Surgical Technologist Training Program and must have completed 16 hours of continuing education every two years or CST.

Experience

• Preferred: 1 year experience as a surgical technologist in a full-service operating room
• Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

Credentials

• Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support Certification (healthcare provider)

Skills

• Well organized, detail oriented and self motivated (Required)
• Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (Required)
• Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision (Required)
• Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required)
• Understanding of operating room protocols (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
• Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
• Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
