Job Details
The Surgical Technologist acts as a member of the surgical team in providing patient care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Prepare the appropriate instrumentation and materials for use on the surgical field, passing instruments to the surgeon during the procedure and room turnover. Perform surgical scrub duties as directed under supervision.What you will do:&bull
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments, supplies and equipment in a timely manner.&bull
Communicates in a positive, clear and concise manner to all members of the surgical team. Correctly selects and utilizes sterilization methods appropriate to specific instrument, supply or equipment.&bull
Demonstrates ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of the individual taking into consideration age, culture, and developmental issues.&bull
Handles specimens and medications using correct technique and according to departmental policy and procedure.&bull
Maintains sterile technique as well as sterile instruments, supplies and equipment.&bull
Monitors and communicates to surgical team members breaks in technique and unsafe patient situations.&bull
Performs the necessary surgical counts on sharps, small items, instruments and sponges with the circulating nurse prior to opening, during, and after closing the incision.&bull
Prepares the surgical field by opening correct supplies and preparing instruments and equipment needed for the scheduled case. Assures all materials are available and in working order and verifies own skill in using equipment correctly.&bull
Utilize knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology, anticipates and responds to needs of surgeons by requesting instruments/supplies based on procedure and case progress.

Required Qualifications
Surgical Technologist, OR Certifications(At least one of the following): BLS(Copy Needed), CERT-NCCT - TS-C(Copy Needed), CERT-NBSTSA- CST(Copy Needed) References: 1 Reference in entire work history GI, Ortho, GYN, ENT, Breast, Plastics, Vasular, Cardiology and Urgology Epic charting experience
