Surgical Technician (Scrub Tech)

Sign-On Bonus Available! A $2,000 sign-on bonus is offered for this position, with payout contingent upon completion of employment milestones. Details will be provided during the recruitment process.

The Surgical Technician is a key member of the surgical team, supporting surgeons and healthcare providers during invasive and non-invasive procedures. Working under the supervision of a surgeon, the tech ensures a sterile environment, prepares instruments and equipment, and maintains patient safety throughout all phases of the surgical process.

Qualifications

  • Education & Certification:
    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience
    • CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification preferred
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required
  • Experience:
    • Experience in outpatient pain management and/or surgery center preferred
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with medical terminology, surgical procedures, anatomy, sterile technique
    • Proficiency with EMR and PACS systems
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Key Responsibilities

Preoperative

  • Don OR attire and PPE
  • Prepare surgical supplies, instruments, equipment, and sterile field
  • Perform surgical scrub and assist with gowning/gloving team
  • Complete pre‑op counts and assist with patient draping
  • Participate in time‑out procedure and equipment setup

Intraoperative

  • Anticipate and respond to surgeon’s needs during procedures
  • Pass instruments, suction/sponges, cut sutures, hold retractors
  • Handle medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation
  • Maintain sterile technique, complete intra‑op counts, prepare specimens
  • Apply sterile dressings or immobilization devices

Postoperative

  • Assist with patient transfer
  • Clean and prep instruments for sterilization
  • Support terminal room cleaning and next case setup
  • Participate in case debriefing and quality improvement

Additional Duties

  • Maintain clean, well‑stocked OR
  • Operate imaging equipment safely; assist with troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control guidelines
  • Use proper body mechanics and respond to emergencies appropriately
  • Order and stock supplies
  • Participate in continuing education, committees, and policy development
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice

Working Conditions

  • Supervision:No direct supervisory responsibilities
  • Language:Must speak, read, and write English fluently
  • Math:Ability to perform basic calculations (fractions, decimals, percentages)
  • Reasoning:Ability to follow written/oral instructions, work independently, and solve problems
  • Physical Demands:
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs with assistance)
    • Visual/auditory acuity for alarms, instruments, and patient monitoring
    • Manual dexterity for handling instruments and equipment
  • Environment:
    • Moderate noise, possible long shifts, fast‑paced, frequent exposure to blood/body fluids and sharps
    • Reasonable accommodations provided as needed
