Surgical Technologist - FA

Position Overview

Operating Room, Full‑time, 40 hrs/week.

Required: Associate degree (AA), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFA) and BLS/CPR certification within 90 days of hire.

Compensation: Starting at $33.73/hr, with an estimated range of $33.73-$52.28/hr and a $10,000 sign‑on bonus.

Responsibilities

• Applies principles of disinfection and sterilization.
• Assists in the positioning, skin preparation, and draping of the patient.
• Assists with clean up and case turnover.
• Assumes accountability for verification of operative procedure being performed.
• Demonstrates knowledge of basic aseptic techniques.
• Demonstrates knowledge of patient identification.
• Handles, identifies, and delivers all specimens, cultures, implantable devices, and homografts.
• Operates and maintains equipment according to recommended manufacturers instructions and policies and procedures.
• Operates flash sterilizer and Steris sterilizer.
• Participates in the evaluation of the patient care delivery system.
• Performs first assisting duties according to standards of practice as assigned.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of competencies necessary to function in the first assistant role.
• Performs scrub duties as assigned to maintain clinical skills.
• Provides hemostasis, wound exposure, handles and cuts tissue appropriately to reduce the potential for injury, sutures tissues, and applies dressings to the wound under the direction of the surgeon.
• Uses surgical instruments skillfully in ways consistent with their design and purpose.
• Scrubs all operative procedures performed.
• Seeks assistance when situation is beyond the ORT/LPN’s knowledge and experience.
• Takes call as scheduled.
• Uses basic communication skills to obtain and provide pertinent patient care information to other team members, establish professional rapport with other team members and surgeons, maintain patient/family confidentiality, achieve desired outcomes, and serve as the patient advocate.
• Utilizes surgeon preference card and case cart pick list to competently prepare for operative procedures.

Qualifications

• Associate degree (AA) required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFA) required.
• BLS or CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
• Experience in first‑assistant duties and operating room protocols preferred.
