Surgical Technologist

Job Summary:
The Surgical Services - OR Tech / Surgical Tech provides essential support in the operating room by assisting surgical teams with patient care, instrumentation, and equipment management. This role is critical in facilitating smooth surgical procedures across various specialties including trauma, orthopedics, neurology, general surgery, and more. The OR Tech ensures adherence to safety protocols and maintains sterile environments to optimize patient outcomes during complex surgeries in a Level II trauma center.
Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are sterile and available.
• Assist surgeons and surgical staff during operations by passing instruments and anticipating procedural needs.
• Manage surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before, during, and after surgery.
• Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
• Support patient positioning and safety throughout surgical procedures.
• Participate in inventory control and restocking of surgical supplies.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure efficient surgical workflow.
• Document procedures and maintain accurate records using the EPIC charting system.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum of 1 year of relevant surgical tech experience.
• Current BLS certification.
• Washington State License (pending accepted).
• Knowledge and experience with Level II Trauma, Craniotomy, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery (crani/spine), and General Surgery.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity Level II trauma center environment.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records system.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
• Experience with specialties such as gynecology, urology, plastics, robotics, vascular, thoracic, and cardiac surgery.

Special Considerations:

• Shift includes 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week with at least one weekend night shift.
• On-call requirements: 6-8 weekday night calls (21:00-07:00) and 6-8 twelve-hour shifts (either 07:00-19:00 or 19:00-07:00) over a 13-week period.
• No floating to other units.
• Only occasional weekend on-call with advanced notice.
• First-time travelers accepted; locals not accepted.
• Requested Time Off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application.
• Adherence to dress code: any scrub color except reddish orange.
• Free parking available.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week.
• Guaranteed 60 working hours per two-week pay period.
• Shifts may include weekend nights as part of the rotation.
