Surgical Technologist – Endoscopy Center

• Provide clinical support in the Champaign Endoscopy Center
• Assist with patient care activities under RN direction
• Obtain and transport specimens according to hospital policy
• Assist physicians with instruments, equipment, procedures, and treatments
• Set up and tear down procedure rooms between cases
• Reprocess endoscopes and accessory instruments
• Clean and sterilize instruments according to unit and hospital policy and nursing society guidelines
• Apply aseptic principles and maintain separation of clean and dirty areas
• Document duties in nursing unit and patient records
• Clean and stock exam and procedure rooms
• Assist with inventory and restocking of supplies
• Serve as a technical equipment resource within the department

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology
• Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) within 18 months — Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days — American Heart Association (AHA)
• 1+ years of work experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Hand/eye coordination
• Knowledge of infection control principles
• Ability to independently scrub basic surgical procedures
• Ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed
• Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology
• Basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers
• Knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork
• Knowledge and practice of sterile technique during surgical procedures
