- Function as an integral part of the perioperative team as the first, second, or assisting surgical technician or second circulator under the direct supervision of the registered nurse
- Apply asepsis principles to maintain a sterile environment
- Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients according to department policies and procedures
- Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost-effective department
- Collect data on assigned patients as directed by the RN and unit-based performance standards
- Participate in Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement and Infection Control Committees as needed
- Assist with supply ordering and inventory control
- Collaborate with surgeons and the OR team to ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready for procedures
- Use preference cards to ensure specialized supplies are available
- Assist with cleaning and sterilization of instruments
- Properly dispose of trash and sharps
- Participate in Time Out
- Assist with room turnover
- Stock supplies and communicate with the Nurse Manager regarding needed supplies and instruments
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days
- Ability to apply asepsis principles and maintain a sterile environment
- Competency in select technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and appropriate knowledge base
- Ability to provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients
- Ability to work Monday-Friday, four 9-hour shifts per week
- Availability for rotating call weekends every 3-4 nights
- Availability for rotating holiday call
- Availability for rotating evening call every 3-4 nights
