JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
Work Shift: Monday through Friday, 6:15am to 2:45pm. Call is required during the week, weekends, holidays, and disasters.
Summary of the Job
The Surgical Technologist/LPN functions as a members of the surgical team in the role of scrub person. Under the supervision of a RN, the Technologist facilitates the safe and effective conduct of invasive and surgical procedures, maximizing patient safety and sterile technique with the application of AORN and professional standards. Responsibilities include preparing and handling the instrumentation, supplies, and devices necessary for the surgical procedure.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology.
- LPN Licensure (if applicable).
- One (1) year experience is preferred or STHS experience through the Surgical Tech Educational affiliate program.
- Acute Care OR experience preferred.
- Current BLS certification through any ILCOR–provided course such as Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross.
- ILCOR course must include a manikin check‑off.
- Good communication skills and decision‑making ability.
- Ability to be available in‑house within 30 minutes when on call.
- Call is required according to unit standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Surgical Technology Certification (CST) preferred.
Physical Demands
- Must be in good physical health; stand, sit, or walk for long periods.
- Lifting at least 50pounds required.
- Work with moderate level of noise.
Physical Effort
- Constant (67%-100%): reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing.
- Frequently (34%-66%): none.
- Occasionally (1%-33%): lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching.
